I really enjoy taking high school senior portraits. I love hearing about the plans these young people have for their last year of high school, where they would like to attend college, what they want to study, traveling they hope to do, etc. They are right on the cusp of something big, and they know it, yet they are still at a secure place for the last year of high school with their parents and childhood friends.
Photographing Christina was a joy. She was not only very comfortable in front of the camera, but easy to talk with. When I asked if she wouldn’t mind me taking a portrait of her up on the bluff overlooking the ocean, not only did she agree, but she started climbing up the steep cliffside of the bluff and was at the top before her mom and I had a chance to worry! I think it’s that courageous, adventurous spirit that will make her last year of high school and the next step in her life a true success. I hope your senior year is wonderful Christina!
The image below is one of my favorite portraits I have ever taken. It makes me think of one of my all-time favorite songs about growing up and leaving home, “Wide Open Spaces” by the Dixie Chicks.
